A Blending of Talents

My very first collaboration with a poet. My friend Jason had shared this haiku with me months ago and one day while rereading it I began to think of photographs that matched the mood and imagery of his words. The risk being that I didn't want to overshadow, so-to-speak, his art or vice versa. Basically the two art forms needed to mesh together.

So the two pieces below are what I came up with and presented to Jason earlier this week. And the silly fella now can't decide which one he likes best so we decided to ask you, my readers, to chime in with your thoughts. Good, bad, constructive, deconstructive, technical, high-brow, whatever you feel like tossing out...just be respectable. :)

Oh and you can click here to see a larger version of both, i.e. actually be able to read the haiku! http://ctec.clark.edu/~jcovi1966/

Mushy Brain & Limp Tendons

The past several weeks have been spent glued to my desk chair with my finger on the mouse and eyes locked in tunnel vision at the monitor.  Needless to say my brain is beyond Jello at this point.

I've been sifting thru websites upon websites reading up on web marketing, promoting one's art, joining up with Twitter, opening a store on Zazzle.com, finding former newspaper colleagues on LinkedIn, downloading and installing applications that are touted to help me maintain my plethora of social networking accounts so that I can become more efficient.

Oh and all the while still figuring out this whole grad school thing.

I'm beginning to feel like the Supertramp song "The Logical Song."

When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful,
A miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.
And all the birds in the trees, well theyd be singing so happily,
Joyfully, playfully watching me.
But then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible,
Logical, responsible, practical.
And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable,
Clinical, intellectual, cynical.

Probably the hardest part of all for me is simply maintaining these sites, keeping my blog up-to-date (i.e. finding something to blather on about), letting people know that yes indeed I'm alive and kicking.  So if ya been wondering where the heck did I disappear off to, there's your answer.

I have managed to still get in some edits during a few precious downtimes!  These are from my ongoing personal project "Left of Center."

A Fruitful Summer

Two big announcements!!
Big mostly cause they're happening at the same time not big so much in the sense of the word BIG. *lol*

This coming Friday, July 3rd I will be exhibiting work in TWO separate shows, both here in Albuquerque-land.

At the Chocolate Cafe & Bakery (don't ya just love that name?!) I, along with 14 other photographers, will be showing not only July but thru August 31st. Contact the shop for operating hours.

Chocolate Cafe & Bakery
2933 Monte Vista Blvd NE
Albuquerque, 87106
(505) 254-0463

The nifty part about this is the cafe is located right at the intersection of Girard/Monte Vista/Central, smack dab in the university and Nob Hill neighbourhood. The kiddos will be returning or starting school around the 20th of August, I believe, which hopefully will provide a audience of parents interested in visiting the city that their child will be hanging out in. At least that's my ardent desire!

I and others will be at the cafe inhaling the intoxicating aromas on Friday starting around 1pm.

And down west of the university, tucked right downtown, near the convention center and Civic Center Plaza, Chroma Gallery & Studios is having their first photography only show. This gallery location has been open only since May but they've already won the Downtown Action Team's LOOK Award for Best New Business!!

600 1st Street NW, Suite 100 & 210
NE corner of 1st & Roma
Albuquerque, 87102

Friday July 3rd - July 31
Opening reception: 6pm, 07/03/09

The space is HUGE, 9,000sq ft, 2 floors (lower 1/2 is all studios) and has some of the best display areas I have ever seen for a gallery. Me and 15 other photographers will be filling up just some of this prime art space for the month of July.

Start off your 4th of July holiday weekend by checking out the great art scene here in Albuquerque!
